Clear, colourful and engaging educational resources. Breaking learning down to the nub, making concepts as easy as abc...
We'd love to know what you think of what you download, so please don't hesitate to get in touch...
Whatâs included?
This download includes x15 A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise reading and writing CVC words mostly within Phase 2. Sounds from Phase 3 include j, v, w, z and sh.
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Whatâs it for?
This activity is interactive and encourages learners to sound out and read simple CVC words and think about what these words mean. Some words of course may have more than one meaning, however for the purpose of this activity I have only provided one illustration for every word. For ânewâ words learners may need to work by process of elimination to identify the correct word/picture combination to record this (in writing) on the sheet provided.
Resource Details
There are x5 (colour coded) sets included here. Each set includes one âCVC wheelâ to make with easy to follow instructions. Once the wheel is assembled when turned different initial letters are revealed to make x9 CVC words per wheel.
ALL words are ârealâ (not ânonsenseâ) words.
CVC words include the sounds âanâ, âetâ, âipâ, âogâ and âugâ
Differentiation
Also included is one sheet in two levels of difficulty. The first sheet only has the initial sound missing (easier), the second sheet has ALL letters missing - for learners to write on the lines provided (more challenging). The level of difficulty is indicated by an icon at the base of each sheet (right side) - green for easier, red for more challenging.
There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of each sheet (left side). The CVC phonics wheel can be reused time and again.
Suggestion
I suggest printing and making the phonics wheel out of card which is stronger so more robust than paper and easier to turn.

Whatâs included?
This download includes x3 A4, pdf sheets (portrait orientation) to practise handwriting the lowercase letters c, o, a, d, g, q .
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support.
These resources have been designed to focus on the common confusion there can be for some learners when writing letters which are visually similar. This resource set should help in providing some focused additional support looking at these letters together, reinforcing the correct way of writing letters with similar shapes.
These letters are all written in a similar way, starting at the top and beginning by curving round to the leftâŠ
Resource details
The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 100.
This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has a clear âstarting dotâ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dotted lines on top of letters provide guidance of where exactly to write.
I have grouped these letters into pairs - c/o, a/d and g/q.
There is a clear space for learners to write their name on the line at the base of the sheet. There is also a clear space to record the number date at the top, right of the sheet, helpful to keep completed sheets and track progress (and improvement!) over time.
All letters are positioned on a line - to model how letters should look when positioned correctly on a line.

Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support.
Whatâs it for?
This activity set has been designed to practise and reinforce the first twelve sounds in Phase 2 - s a t p i n m d g o c k. Learners match pictures and sounds (as puzzles) to complete images and make a simple words to read.
All words on the âpicture puzzlesâ only use these sounds.
This activity set has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. These resources are also ideal to use to revisit these sounds later if learners need some additional support with these.
This activity is ideal for groups to be getting on with independently when these sounds are first introduced as a quieter time activity or for an adult to provide some small group/one to one support revisiting these sounds.
How to use it?
Picture/word puzzles
Pages 1 and 2
An adult cuts out the x19 puzzle shapes following dotted lines. The segments of all x19 âpicture/word puzzlesâ can then be shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to match. These two sets can be used separately or together - both are colour coded. Set 1 (letter âs a t p i nâ) is red/pink, set 2 (letters âm d g o c kâ) is orange/yellow.
Once the segments of each picture/word puzzle are completed each of the words can be read.

Whatâs included?
x4 sheets (activities and answers) for Phase 2 Set 1 (letters - s a t p i n). Portrait orientation, pdf format.
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support.
Whatâs it for?
This activity set has been designed to practise and reinforce the first six sounds in Phase 2 - s a t p i n. Learners sound out the words on the âword cardsâ and match these to the images on the âpicture cardsâ. Answers are clearly presented on pages 3 and 4 for quick easy reference - encouraging learners to be autonomous.
All words in this resource only use the sounds âs a t p i nâ.
This âPhase 2â phonics practise activity set (1) has been designed to be a simple, predictable matching activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or for an adult to use to support learners needing some extra help/to revisit these sounds.
Phase 2, set 2 (sounds m d g o c k) is also available (in same design) in my TES shop if you like this one.
How to use it?
The adult can pre-cut the x16 rectangular shaped picture cards (x8) and word cards (x8) (pages 1 and 2). Grey dotted lines guide where to cut. These x16 cards can then be shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to read and match.
Resource DetailsâŠ
The words on the word cards only use the letters s, a, t, p, i, n.
These words are:
snap
pin
pants
spin
tin
sit
pan
snip
Learners may find âsnipâ, snapâ, âspinâ and âsitâ more tricky to match as these four cards do not link directly to a noun picture card. âSnapâ links to a âcrocodileâ, âsnipâ to âscissorsâ, âspinâ to a âglobeâ and âsitâ to the cat which is âsittingâ on a chair - encouraging learners to think a bit more about the meaning of the words on the cards.

Print resources onto card rather than paper, cut following dotted lines and place the âword cardsâ on a table top with the last section folded backwards (where the âdashed linesâ indicate) to âhideâ the image behind the word. Learners sound out and read each word, then can check by looking behind at the hidden (folded back) image to see if they read the word correctly. With the end section folded back these cards can âstand upâ on a table top rather than being laid flat, giving them an interactive feel.

Whatâs included?
This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise reading and writing to correct x8 simple sentences. Every sentence has x3 mistakes to correct. The last two pages are the answer pages - the same sentences with every mistake made clear.
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
Pages 1 and 2 both include x4 sentences, each in a separate box, illustrated with a simple image on the right. Both pages include the same instructions at the top - making it clear to learners that there are x3 mistakes in each sentence and what these mistakes might be.
Mistakes may be spellings, capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of both pages.
The words included and spelling errors make the level of this activity aimed at learners who are learning Phase 5 phonics. Sentences include words containing Phase 5 sounds (ea, ay, a-e, aw, ph) as well as a knowledge of common high frequency words including she, you, his, are, and, said, see, their, not, with, at, the, to, do, that, can, in, loved, dad. The pictures provide clues to assist reading unfamiliar words (e.g. lions, zoo, sheep, lambs, chicken, grapes, bake) to encourage learners to use a range of reading skills when decoding these sentences if they are not at a level to read them on-sight.
Pages 3 and 4 clearly show the answers in exactly the same format to encourage learners to be autonomous in checking their own learning. Each mistake is circled in pink and corrected clearly underneath to make clear to learners exactly where and what each mistake was.

Whatâs included?
This download includes one A4, pdf sheet (portrait orientation) to practise handwriting numerals 0 to 10.
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed to break down each step involved in writing these eleven numerals correctly, using green (go!) âstarting dotsâ and red âstop dotsâ to make it clear to learners exactly where to begin and end writing. Colour coded arrows guide learners on which direction to follow. This resource should help in providing some focused additional support looking at these numerals more closely for those pupils who need a greater level of support and maybe find it harder to remember which direction to follow.
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource details
The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 150.
This activity has been designed to write straight on. The start and stop dots make it clear where learners place their pencil to begin/where to end and dotted lines on top of letters provide guidance of exactly which direction to write.
There is a clear space for learners to write their name on the line at the base of the sheet and a clear space to record the number-date at the top of the sheet - helpful to keep sheets and track progress (and improvement!) over timeâŠ

Whatâs included?
This download includes one âmonths of the yearâ word search in colour AND black and white. There are x4 pages in total, all portrait orientation in pdf format.
The x12 months and x4 seasons of the year are hidden in a x10 by x10 square grid, with the hidden words clearly listed in four (seasonal) groups underneath.
The answers (on page 2) clearly show where all words are hidden, displayed in the same layout (as page 1) for easy comparison and quick reference.
Whoâs it for?
This word search has been carefully designed to encourage young readers in the early years and pupils in years one and two (as well as students needing additional learning support) with reading key words.
Knowing these time-related words (the months of the year and seasons) both reading them on-sight and learning the correct spellings will benefit both reading and writing.
Resource layout
Page 1
The words for the twelve months have been organised into groups of four according to which season they are part of. The box for each season has been colour coded (in the colour version) to make this clearer, the âseason wordâ for each group is also hidden within the word search. There are x16 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards). Words to find are; Winter, December, January, February, Spring, March, April, May, Summer, June, July, August, Autumn, September, October and November (all are hidden as lower case letters).
Page 2
The layout is exactly the same design as page 1 making cross referencing the answers quick and easy and encouraging learners to be autonomous. The position of the hidden words is made clear by the colour coded lines as well as a small arrow to the left of each word which identifies the direction of the hidden word.
Recommendations
I recommend that learners use a âhighlighterâ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible. If words are instead âcrossed outâ this makes the letters harder to read and identify. This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused.

double sided (back to back) version also available
Whatâs it for?
These Christmas Alphabet cards have been designed to be printed separately onto card to practise identifying the x26 initial sounds and match these with the correct grapheme - all Christmas themed. This set of cards provided learners with a fun opportunity to practise their sound knowledge linked to Christmas.
This activity has been designed to be a simple, interactive, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals to be getting on with independently.
How to use it?
An adult needs to print these cards onto A4 card and and pre-cut the cards into x52 separate rectangle cards.
The set of cards can then be shuffled and placed on a table top, positioned face up with a for learners to look at and match. Learners could use on their own or perhaps with adult support (initially). Learners could also use this resource to order the cards alphabetically.
Learners look at each image and say this out loud. They then identify (verbally) the initial sound of this word e.g. for the first letter of the alphabet the learner would say âAdvent Calendarâ and then âaâ (for âAdventâ). Learners then look for the âaâ grapheme card to match the two together.
Resource DetailsâŠ
The pictures included use words with clear initial sounds. Some images/words may be completely new to learners making these a teaching point and opportunity to expand their âChristmas vocabularyâ. For clarity all images are labelled on the back of every card, e.g. âquinceâ may easily be presumed to be a âpearâ.

Whatâs included?
This download includes three A4, portrait pdf sheet to practise reading and writing CVC words within Phase 2.
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
The layout includes x2 wheels, one for the âfrontâ (wheel 1) and one for the back - with the x2 sets of vowels on (wheel 2). Once assembled (according to instructions included on the pdf) the CVC Phonics Wheel can be turned to reveal one vowel in the centre of the two consonants displayed/written on the front of the wheel. The wheel can be turned clockwise or anticlockwise, the direction doesnât matter.
Some words will be ârealâ e.g. den//hen/men/pen and some words will not be real/will be ânonsenseâ words e.g. len/ren - these can be written on page 3 - there is space for x10 real and x10 nonsense words to be written here and a clear space for learners to write their name (at the base of the sheet).
Suggestion
For older, more able learners this activity could be linked to looking up new words in the dictionary to find out if they are/are not real words and if they are ârealâ words e.g. âfenâ find out what their meanings are (Fen is used to refer to an area of low, flat, wet land, especially in the east of England).
Important messageâŠ
ANY issues with any of this CVC phonics wheel please donât hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes as needed. Feedback of this resource would be wonderful! Thank you!

Whatâs included?
This download includes x3 A4 portrait pdf sheets. These include three dice to make, x2 âgame cardsâ and simple, clear instructions for how to play the game.
Red Die 1 (page 1)
Includes sounds s b h m p r
Amber Die 2 (page 2)
Includes sounds a a e i o u
Green Die 3 (page 2)
Includes sounds ck d g ll n t
How to use this resource
An adult needs to cut out and make the three phonics dice - clear instructions are included. Each player will need one game card (and a pencil!) There are two game cards included on page 3 - these can be printed/photocopied as many times as needed and the sheet cut in half to separate the two game cards (one per player).
This game can be for one learner to play alone or for several learners to play together in a group (taking turns).
The game instructions are included on pages 1 and 3 of the download - I will also include them here:
How to play game
Each player takes turns to roll the three dice together.
Each player places the three dice next to each other, left to right - red, amber, green.
Player sounds out the graphemes to read the word.
If this is a ârealâ word player writes it in the coloured boxes on their card (on the âleftâ side). If this is a ânonsenseâ word the player writes this word in the coloured boxes on their card (on the right side).
Play passes to next player.
If a player rolls the same combination as previously rolled they can have another turn.
First player to roll (read and write!) x5 real OR nonsense words wins!
There are various words which can be made using this combination of letters in the set order. Some âreal wordâ examples include sat/bat/hat/mat/pat/rat, pig/bill/hill/mill/pill, pull/bug/hug/mug/rug, sock/rock/hog, hen/men/pen/red/bell/sell. I hope you have fun finding them all - real AND nonsense!

Whatâs included?
This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to make x4 phonics fans featuring all sounds in Phase 2.
Red Set 1 (page 1)
Includes sounds s a t p i n
Orange Set 2 (page 2)
Includes sounds m d g o c k
Yellow Set 3 (page 3)
Includes sounds ck e b r u h
Green Set 4 (page 4)
Includes sounds f ff l ll ss
How to use this resource
As all letter sounds for Phase 2 are included here the all can be combined onto one ring as one set. I have included âcoversâ for each individual set incase the preference is to split the sets. A âcoverâ for ALL sounds is included on Page 4.
Phonics fans can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. Learners can use these phonics fans as a personal reference resource to cross-check the correct grapheme or orientation of individual letters if unsure when writing. Phonics fans can also be used for a variety of games and to involve learners during sound rhymes and songs. These fans are a great size to fit into a pocket or clip onto a lanyard to be accessed both inside the classroom and outdoors.
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Suggestion
I recently purchased some brightly coloured plastic keyrings which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic. These could be ideal should you wish learners to access the contents of the ring (e.g. to order the letters) and come in a variety of colours. Alternatively I have found standard metal keyrings also work well as a more permanent âholderâ of the contents threaded onto the keyring.
I recommend that each letter is laminated before punching a hole and threading onto a keyring - this is included in the instructions on the pdf.

What is it?
This download includes x6 sheets (portrait orientation) featuring TWO sets of x27 right AND left hand/finger âpointersâ in rainbow/skin tone colours both as solid colours and outline only.
Whatâs it for?
These are for learners to hold and use to âpointâ to their learning - ideal to use alongside my âants on applesâ set of rhymes (available in my TES shop!) /teaching-resource/ants-on-apples-x26-alphabet-rhymes-a-z-set-13118362
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. If you use a âpointerâ you can guarantee they would like to use one too!
How to make it?
Print onto white card, follow dotted lines to cut out each hand/pointer shape, attach a wooden lolly stick to the back with sticky tape and theyâre ready to use! I kept my set in a little pot in the reading area for learners to help themselves to or you may wish for learners to have their own, maybe in their favourite colourâŠ
